Northeast SPCA breaks ground for Melfort building

Aug 15, 2018 | 2:20 PM

Stray animals stuck in vet clinics could soon have a larger space, as the Northeast SPCA broke ground in Melfort for their first building.

The 5062 square ft. building which will hold stray animals from as far as Hudson Bay and Anahim Lake could be ready by Summer 2019, although there’s no certain timeline on when it will open.

Victor Kernaleguen, head of the building committee for Northeast SPCA, told northeastNOW it will take consistent donations and fundraising to build their facility and keep it running.

“You don’t come up with a million dollars to put a building together and start running it right off the hop. It’s been a challenge for us,” Kernaleguen said. “Once we’ve got the building up it’ll take donations to keep the building opening and functioning to take care of those animals.”
