North Central Health Care Foundation ‘ecstatic’ about RCMP donation

Every year, the Melfort RCMP hosts a golf tournament and gives the funds to two charities.

One of the beneficiaries is always the North East Regional Victims Services, but every year the RCMP choose a different second charity which they believe is a worthy cause in Melfort. This year, the North Central Health Care Foundation is the beneficiary of the golf tournament funds, and Foundation Chair Peggy George told northeastNOW her group is ecstatic.

“Any time someone wants to keep us in their thoughts and donate money to our cause we are more than thrilled and appreciative,” George said.

The extra funds come at a crucial time for the North Central Health Care Foundation, as they are little under $110,000 shy of their goal of purchasing digital x-ray equipment.

Originally formed in 2001 to raise funds for Parkland Place nursing home in Melfort, the people running the foundation thought it was a worthwhile cause and should be kept open.

“We’re here to enhance healthcare in the City of Melfort,” George said. “We purchased many pieces of equipment which helps clients in the facilities, and nurses and technicians to do their jobs to the best of their ability.”

The foundation hopes to reach their $510,000 goal for the x-ray equipment in time for their Sept. 19 general meeting, George said.

The RCMP Charity Golf Tournament takes places Saturday, Aug. 18 at Melfort Golf & Country Club.
