Melfort Mustangs asking fans to design breast cancer jersey

Aug 17, 2018 | 2:00 PM

An idea to get Melfort Mustangs fans and kids more involved with the team is also supporting breast cancer research.

The Mustangs have asked their fans to design a breast cancer jersey for the team to wear during warmups at their home games for all of October. Jaret Schneider, marketing and business director for the Mustangs, said the team’s equipment manager Justin Remple came up with the idea for a jersey design contest, and the team decided to use the competition to address an issue that hits close to home for many.

“My mom had cancer when I was young. Luckily enough she was able to beat it and hasn’t had any signs of it in over 20 years, but it’s something that affected me,” Schneider said. “Everyone seems to know someone who has it.”

Fans hoping to submit a design can grab a form from TJ’s Pizza, fill it out, and bring it to Northern Lights Palace with a $5 registration fee. All ideas will be presented to the board of directors for a vote, and the winning design will be made into jerseys the Mustangs will wear before being sold at a silent auction at the end of October.
