Fire in Melfort lot considered suspicious

Sep 5, 2018 | 2:00 PM

Firefighters arrived at a private lot near Eagle Towing early in the morning on Wednesday Sept. 5 for what the Melfort Fire Department is calling a suspicious blaze.

One half-ton truck and three fifth wheel trailers were on fire, although no injuries transpired afters crews put out the flames.

Melfort Fire Chief Jason Everitt told northeastNOW the vehicles don’t appear to be from outside of the city.

“From our information they were there for some time, either in storage or whatnot,” Everitt said. “They’ve been there for anywhere from several weeks to upwards of a year.”

All four vehicles were destroyed in the fires and remain in the lot. Melfort RCMP have opened a file on the case which is under investigation.

Everitt said the fire department will search the lot again once the vehicles cool down and asked the public to stay away from the scene due to safety concerns and investigative purposes.

More information will be provided once it becomes available.
