House fire ‘not suspicious’: Fire chief

Sep 26, 2018 | 12:00 PM

The Nipawin Fire Department has ruled out foul play in connection to last weekend’s house fire in the Rural Municipality of Nipawin.

Fire Chief Brian Starkell told northeastNOW there was nothing suspicous about the fire, but added they don’t know the exact cause yet.

“The fire is still under investigation of course and [the homeowner] will not be able to use the house any longer,” he said.

Nipawin firefighters responded to the fire shorty after 8 a.m. Saturday when a witness called it in. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered that the rear entrance of the structure was fully involved. Starkell said the home was vacant at the time.

“The owner just kind of used it for a secondary home, where they could cook lunch if they were working in the shop,” he said.
