Mustangs acquire former Mintos captain

The Melfort Mustangs brought in a former Prince Albert Mintos AAA Midget player before the regular season began in defenceman Jake Hobson, and they’ve appeared to go back to the P.A. well.

Former Mintos captain Kyle Schneider was acquired from the Selkirk Steerlers of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League (MJHL) in exchange for a player development fee.

Mustangs head coach and general manager Trevor Blevins told northeastNOW it will ultimately be up to Schneider to see where he fits in the line-up, but he expects grit, work ethic, and leadership from Schneider.

“We definitely want him to bring energy and that’s going be his role, be hard on pucks and bring in a physical presence,” Blevins said.

Schneider, a 1999-born forward, has two goals and three assists in 25 career games with the Steelers in the MJHL. With the Mintos in the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League (SMAAHL), Schneider tallied up seven goals and 14 assists in 73 games over three seasons.

Blevins said it’s unsure whether Schneider will play in the Mustangs home game on Friday, Oct. 5 against the La Ronge Ice Wolves.
