Tisdale RCMP reminds public school zones are in effect

Oct 19, 2018 | 5:00 PM

It’s been a little over a month into the school year and the Tisdale RCMP is cautioning drivers about going through school zones.

Cpl. Mike Benjamin told northeastNOW the Tisdale RCMP have placed officers near the schools when kids are walking in the morning.

“Between what we’ve observed for traffic offences and complaints that have come in from the bus drivers themselves we put out a notice just as an alert to the driving community,” Benjamin said. “To keep an eye out for the kids on the road and pay attention to buses when they’re stopped.”

Fines include $125 for driving with obstructed windshields and windows, $230 for failing to yield or stop for pedestrians at marked crosswalks, $280 for using electronic devices for communications such as cellphones or other distracted driving, and $360 for not stopping at least five meters from the front or rear of a school bus with its safety lights on and stop arm extended.
