Humboldt Broncos truck driver case adjourned due to amount of Crown disclosure

Oct 23, 2018 | 12:00 PM

The case involving Jaskirat Sidhu, the semi truck driver in the Humboldt Broncos crash in April, is once again adjourned.

Satnam Aujla, Sidhu’s lawyer, appeared on his client’s behalf over the phone in Calgary where he told Judge Inez Cardinal him and Crown prosecutor Thomas Healey agreed to adjourn the case until Nov. 27 due to a large amount of disclosure.

Healey wasn’t in court, but had another prosecutor representing the Crown. Healey mentioned during the previous court appearance on Oct. 2 he wanted to stay on as Crown counsel for the case.

The case will resume on Tuesday, Nov. 27 at 9:30 am in Melfort Provincial Court for defence election and plea. If Sidhu pleads not guilty, he can elect to be tried by a judge and jury, or judge alone.
