PLUS Industries in Melfort have done some renovations, and made some additions to continue serving those with intellectual disabilities.

Ed Bourassa, Board Chair with PLUS Industries in Melfort, said there were three reasons why they decided to go ahead with the project with their Day Program, and Employment Centre facilities.

“We certainly needed increased space,” Bourassa said. “We’ve increased the number of participants with intellectual disabilities that we support by about 50 per cent over the last 10 years. More space was certainly a motivating factor.”

He said an aging building was the second factor in the project.

“The second reason was; we had a building that was close to 50-years-old and we needed to do some renovations,” Bourassa said. “We upgraded the electrical, heating, and plumbing systems, and replaced all the windows, really making it more efficient.”

The third reason related to programming for their participants who are able to work in the community.

“Many of our participants are able to work in the community, with support from our staff,” Bourassa said. “We did need some space in our new building for training and education, so we did find an opportunity to create that space with this project.”

Bourassa added that having this new space will allow their participants to achieve their goals, and enjoy life in the community.

A ribbon cutting is being held on Nov. 30 to celebrate the opening of the renovated facility. Melfort MLA Todd Goudy, Mayor Rick Lang, and other dignitaries are expected to be in attendance for the event that gets underway at 10 am at PLUS Industries in Melfort.
