Crokicurl coming to Melfort

Nov 22, 2018 | 8:39 AM

A new way to play in Melfort will begin on Friday afternoon.

Crokicurl is coming to the city with a grand opening set for Friday Nov. 23 from 3 to 5 p.m.

Aquatic Manager and Recreation Programmer, Shannon Marshall, said it was important to bring the game that is combination of curling and crokinole to Melfort.

“We just really wanted to bring a recreation opportunity to our community that was fun, easy to play and would suit a wide age range of people,” Marshall said.

The game is free to anyone to use and requires no special equipment.

Marshall said that they have 10 local sponsors with Tim Horton’s also supplying free hot chocolate, coffee and donuts at Friday’s grand opening.

This is a unique opportunity for Melfort and area residents according to Marshall.

“Last year I know Regina set one up, Carrot River set one up and I believe Saskatoon so nothing kind of in our North East region per say,” said Mashall. “So we’re hoping this will draw not only people from Melfort but people from sorrounding communities as well.”

Marshall is encouraging people to round up their teams of two and bring their sense of fun to Memorial Gardens and try their hand at Crokicurl.
