UPDATE: Blevins signs extension

Nov 22, 2018 | 9:32 AM

The Melfort Mustangs have signed Head Coach and General Manager Trevor Blevins to a three-year extension to remain with the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) club through the 2021-2022 season.

Blevins took over the Head Coaching position of the Mustangs during the 2013-2014 season, making the current campaign his sixth season with the team. During his tenure, his teams won 39 games and have won two SJHL titles (2015 & 2016). The 2015 title included a trip to the Royal Bank Cup. Blevins said it was the right decision to sign this extension.

“Most importantly, there are just outstanding people involved to make the Melfort Mustangs successful,” Blevins said. “I’m very humbled, and I feel very fortunate to be able to be a part of it now, and in the future.”

Blevins grew up in Melfort, and played for the Mustangs from 1993-1996. He said it’s easy to work in a town like Melfort.

“It’s a dream job really, when you think of it,” Blevins said. “You get to grow up in a town like Melfort where the people so excited about the team, and really support it, and really like to see it succeed. That’s part of my goals too is just, show up every day, get better, and improve, and put a successful product on and off the ice.”

Vice-President, Chad Elliott said the reason for his success with the team is simple.

“Just his commitment level that he has for the Melfort Mustangs, and everybody in the community. It shows with the respect that he gets from the players, the community, the board, and also the SJHL, and hockey all across Canada.

The Melfort Mustangs currently sit at 17-6-1-0 on the season and are back in action on Friday, Nov. 23 as they host the Yorkton Terriers.
