Melfort’s Rotary Carol Festival celebrates its 70th year this Sunday

An annual holiday tradition returns in Melfort this weekend.

The Rotary Club of Melfort will once again present the 70th annual Rotary Carol Festival.

“It’s going to be a full program,” Rotary member Don Meier said. “It’s being held at the Melfort United Church, there is a two o’clock performance on Sunday afternoon, and a seven o’clock performance Sunday evening.”

Meier said a lot of people help make the festival a special event.

“Particularly the performers, that’s what we look forward to,” he said. “We’ve got a good mixture of choirs, ensembles, solos, some poetry reading and piano solos, so yes, it will be really good.”

Pianist Bernice McCosh has been part of the festival since its inception, and Meier says she is an integral part of the proceedings.

“She is a wonderful musician and a great asset to the carol fesitval, that’s for sure,” he said.

Proceeds from donations at the festival will go to the Salvation Army Christmas hamper program.
