As 2019 approaches, members of the Humboldt and District Chamber of Commerce is looking back at 2018.

The chamber’s highlights for the past year are the Mark of Excellence awards, their annual trade show and the festival of lights.

The Chamber also hired a new executive director.

Brent Fitzpatrick took the role over in November and he said it has been a very busy month.

“My function right now is to meet members and to get out there and see people,” Fitzpatrick said. “I’m really here to act on behalf of the chamber to help businesses to grow and prosper and to make the area all that much better.”

The tradeshow saw some changes and they received a good response.

“We went to smaller, more compact setting in the curling club and what we got back from the advertisers and people in the show was that it worked really well,”  Fitzpatrick said. “All of the businesses then got to see everyone in the tradeshow.”

Fitzpatrick said the festival of lights is another big event for them as well which is underway right now.

“It’s doing very well and of course, the Northern Lights Casino has a very touching display that’s in tribute to the Broncos and its stars on the caboose as you drive in and it’s really quite a neat thing to see,” he said.

Chamber members are looking forward to the 20th annual Mark of Excellence awards in 2019.

Nominations for Mark of Excellence awards are available on the chamber’s website humbodltchamber.ca.

Fitzpatrick added there are some new awards this year as well.
