NEOSS Adopt a Family campaign a huge success in 2018

A holiday campaign to help families in the region has wrapped up.

The Adopt a Family program was a huge success this year, according to North East Outreach and Support Services (NEOSS) Executive Director Louise Schweitzer.

“The campaign went much better than we even expected or dreamed of,” Schweitzer said. “Our communities are so, so generous to give to others and pay it forward at this time of year, that we are forever grateful to everyone that’s donated to this in any way at all.”

Schweitzer said the donations went a long way in helping to make the holidays a little brighter for families in need. A total of 36 families received gifts and a variety of food. Schweitzer said Good Samiritans contacted NEOSS staff and were matched with a family they could provide gifts and a meal to, with ideas from the family’s wishlist. 

“It was all kept anonymous so the adopter never knew who the adoptee was, and the adoptee as well didn’t know who the adopter was. It was all done totally anonymous through our staff,” she said.

Schweitzer took the opportunity to thank everyone that helps make NEOSS successful.

“Just a thank you and a Merry Christmas to all the individuals that we work with and all the individuals that assist us in changing lives every day at Christmas, as well as everyday throughout the year, with your donations and your time,” she said.
