Friday morning commute could be affected by freezing rain

Dec 20, 2018 | 11:08 AM

It could be a precarious drive for Prince Albert and area commuters Friday morning.

Environment Canada is predicting a weather system will come from Alberta which could bring freezing rain and snow. The system should be passing through the Prince Albert and area region starting around 9 p.m.

Terri Lang, a meteorologist with Environment Canada, said the bad weather could cause travel delays.

“With the temperatures so close to freezing it’s going to make for some tricky driving conditions when people wake up in the morning, especially with that snow,” Lang said.

Lang implored people to drive safely, “It’s going to be a big driving day tomorrow (Friday) for a lot of people because of the holidays.”

She also wanted to remind people that it’s important to know the road conditions. “Always check the highway hotline before heading out… and always check to see what the conditions are like where you’re going to.”

Lang also wanted to add that anyone heading to the northern part of the province should expect to run into snow.
