Prince Albert region expecting large snowfall

Jan 9, 2019 | 10:00 AM

Brace yourselves, more snow is coming.

Prince Albert and region will see a large amount of snow fall in the next 24 hours.

Terri Lang with Environment Canada said snow will start falling Wednesday afternoon.

“When all is said and done, it looks like upwards 10 to 15 cm of snow could fall in central regions of the province,” Lang said.

The snow will be accompanied by cold temperatures and high winds, which has prompted Environment Canada to add a frostbite risk for the evening.

Lang said the area should see a reprieve from the cold and snow once this storm has passed.

“The weather pattern is changing, it’s shifting to a warmer pattern,” she said.

Temperatures could be as high as -4 Celsius on Saturday and Sunday.

Lang warned that drivers should be prepared for adverse travel conditions. Fast falling snow can make travel difficult with blowing snow, drifting and reducing visibility.

Before heading out check the Highway Hotline.

Timing of snow clearance not always perfect

The city’s downtown streets looked a lot better Wednesday following the early morning snow lift. But all that effort may be short-lived. City staff try to chose the ideal day to tackle the build-up which became excessive and was also becoming an issue for safe roadside parking.

But Mother Nature can throw snowballs in your face and the expected large snowfall Wednesday night and into Thursday could see the state of the downtown core back to square one.
