Tisdale set to host 4-H curling provincials

Young curlers from across Saskatchewan will settle in the northeast to obtain bragging rights over their peers.

The Tisdale RECplex will host 16 curling teams, which is up to 80 competitors, for the 4-H Saskatchewan Curling Provincials for a weekend in February.

Lesley Thibault, Tisdale’s director of recreation and parks, told northeastNOW the town expects business within the community to benefit from hosting multiple curlers, coaches, and parents.

“Events such as this one always positively impacts a community our size,” Thibault said. “The Town of Tisdale is very proud of all our club organizations that are willing to plan, prepare, and host an event of this magnitude.”

No cash prizes or new cars will be up for grabs, although Terri Holmstrom, co-chairperson for 4-H Provincial Curling, said the kids are always excited when the tournament comes around.

“They always get to come meet new friends, and old friends come along to curl,” Holmstrom said. “It’s a competition but it’s a friendly competition.”

The 4-H Curling Provincials will run from Feb. 15 to 17 at the Tisdale RECplex, with opening ceremonies set to take place on the first evening at 6 p.m.
