Alice Deck

Alice Winifred Deck passed away peacefully at the age of 98 in Parkland Place, Melfort on Tuesday March the 27th 2018.
She was born in the Brooksby District on June 13th 1919 to Arthur and Winifred (Atkings) Deck.
Alice is survived by her brothers Richmond (Dick) of Langley, BC, Sydney of Didsbury, AB. and Frank (Barbara) of Melfort, SK. and by several nieces and nephews.
Alice was predeceased by her parents Arthur and Winifred, sisters Emma and brother-in-law Ken McClelland; Catherine and brother-in-law Harold Tett; brother Henry (Joan), niece Patty Edmunds (Deck). Also sisters-in-law Jean (Dick) and Martha (Sydney) and good friend Olga Rodenbush.
Alice attended Willow Valley School for eight years, her teacher being Mr. Ivan Morrison. Being the eldest of seven children she helped her dad with the field work which was done with horses. In the early fifties she left home to work as a Girls Supervisor in an Indian Residential School run by the United Church; first in Portage La Prairie then in Brandon, then briefly at the Brandon Mental Hospital. Moving to Regina she worked as Housekeeping Supervisor at the Pasqua (Grey Nuns) Hospital, retiring in 1984. She was a dedicated member of St. Peter’s Anglican Church, serving on the Church Auxiliary and also on the Seniors Home Auxiliary. She also took part in delivering Meals on Wheels. In her retirement she enjoyed bus tours to the Maritimes, Alaska and other parts of Canada.
Alice was a willing worker and a caring person always ready to help others and will be sadly missed.
