Alton Hunt was born on March 10, 1922 to Tom and Ethel Hunt on the home place. Alton enjoyed growing up on the farm with his siblings: Earl, Iona and Luella. After completing Grade 12, Alton decided to follow in his father’s footsteps and become a farmer.
At a dance Alton met a charming young lady, Isabelle Lee. They married in 1946 and their first home was north of Runciman where they spent three years before moving into Alton’s parents’ farm home.
Alton loved animals; his dogs as well as his purebred Hereford Cattle which Dennis and he spent many an hour grooming and teaching to lead for many shows and sales.
Alton was community minded and was on a number of committees, Pool Elevator, Co-op Board and the North East Hereford Association.
In the summer Alton and Isabelle enjoyed camping at the lake. Later, for a number of years they spent enjoyable winter months in Arizona. They kept very busy with activities including square dancing, playing cards and Alton enjoyed shuffleboard.
They retired off the farm to Tisdale in 1994 where Alton enjoyed senior curling and playing pool at the Golden Age Centre. Together they enjoyed maintaining a flower filled yard and garden.
Due to Isabelle’s failing health, they moved into Caleb Village in the fall of 2012 where the family has many fond memories of celebrating special events. After breaking her hip, Isabelle moved to Sasko Park Lodge in the fall of 2013 and later, new Market Place in March of 2015. Alton faithfully visited Isabelle while she was in the nursing home and greatly missed the love of his life after she passed away in September 2015.
Alton continued to live at Caleb Village where he enjoyed the activities and fellowship with the other residents. He especially enjoyed the old time music.
Alton was predeceased by his parents Ethel and Tom Hunt, his father in law and mother in law Jim and Mary Lee, his brother Earl (Myrtle) Hunt, his sister Iona Melrose, his sister Luella ( Gerry) Shepherd.
