Andry Zuchok passed away from this life Friday, October 26, 2018 in the Melfort Hospital, at the age of 95 years, 9 months. Andry was born December 13, 1922 in Lustk, Volyn, Ukraine. He is survived by his sister-in-law Agnes Sturby (Panchuk) and numerous nieces and nephews.
Andry was predeceased by his parents, Kornij and Matrona ( Kryvich) Zuchok, two brothers and two sisters, his wife Olga Zuchok (Panchuk), his wife’s parents Dymytro and Elena (nee Korol), brother-in-law Eli and Jenny Panchuk, sister-in-law Bella and William Cherny, sister-in-law Mary and John Sturby and brother-in-law Orville Sturby.
Andry immigrated to Hamilton, Ontario, Canada from England in 1953 where he was employed as a Dental Technician. This is where he met his future wife Olga Panchuk.
He moved to Vancouver, British Columbia in July 1959. On May 6, 1961, Olga and Andry were married in Prince Albert and took up residence in North Surrey, BC. In the early 1960’s Andry accepted a position as a Dental Technician in Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA. They lived there for many years until Olga’s health started to fail at which time they moved back to Saskatoon and lived at Ilarion Place until Olga passed away in 1995.
He continued to live at Ilarion Place for a while but then moved to Diefenbaker Place in Melfort, Sask. in May of 2006 which allowed him to be much closer to the cemetery where Olga was buried.
Andry spent much of his retirement active in his faith, spending many hours at the St. Mary’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church at Gronlid caring for the grounds and cemetery. He replaced fencing, restored crumbing graves, jacked ones that needed levelling, poured concrete for a new church entrance and tackled anything he found that needed attention.
He continued to live at Diefenbaker Place until his health forced him to take up residence at Parkland Place in Dec.7, 2015.
Andry will be missed by all that knew him.
