Dr. Anne P. Kernaleguen passed away October 25th, 2024 in Melfort, SK.
Born to Pierre and Marguerite Kernaleguen on February 15, 1926 at 1-42-20-2 (St. Brieux SK District), Anne was predeceased by her only sibling, Paul and his wife Marie and is survived by five nieces and nephews: Pierre and Jeannette, Joseph and Brenda, Anne Y., Jean and Eva-Marie, and Fernande and Bernard Ferre, their families as well as by great friends and colleagues.
Anne earned a B.H.Sc., U of Sask. in 1948 and a B.Ed., U of A in 1957 and henceforth became a life-long Home Economics educator. She did extension work in Ontario and Alberta and taught six years at the Composite High School in Red Deer. Following a short stint with McCall Corporation, she studied and taught at Michigan State and Utah State Universities completing a M.A. and Ph. D, in 1963 and 1968 respectively. In 1970, Dr. Anne joined the University of Alberta as Department Head of Clothing and Textiles until retirement in 1988. In the seventies, she was instrumental in the development and launching of a graduate program in Clothing and Textiles at the University of Alberta. Her research, which centered mainly on clothing for the disabled, received wide recognition and made a noteworthy and timely contribution to the field. In 1983, she was the recipient of an Alberta Achievement Award for excellence in the field of Clothing and Textiles and in 1989, she was made a Fellow of the International Textile and Apparel Association.
Following retirement, she spent ten years in condominium management, relocating to Saskatoon in 1998. Over the years, she devoted considerable time to professional associations and volunteer organizations and, in 2007, published her memoirs “Fabric of my Life”. She was a seamstress par excellence, an avid watercolor and acrylic artist and a fitness advocate participating off and on in yoga, tai chi, swimming, aqua fit, seniors’ artistic gymnastics. Keeping fit on the treadmill and recumbent bike and daily walks was her way of life in later years.

A Prayer Service will be held on Friday, November 1, 2024 at 7:00 PM, and the Funeral Mass will be Celebrated on Saturday, November 2, 2024 at 10:30 AM. Both services will be held at the St. Brieux Roman Catholic Church, St. Brieux, SK. The interment will follow in the Kermaria Cemetery.
