Arlene Anne (Weed) Neighbours
September 30, 1968 – September 9, 2026
Arlene Anne (Weed) Neighbours, aged 57, passed away peacefully on September 9, 2026, in her hometown of Melfort, SK. It was courage, grace, and unwavering strength that defined her entire life. She was born in Melfort on September 30, 1968, to Roger and Marlene Weed. Arlene was a lifelong resident of Melfort—a community that she held dear to her heart.
Arlene spent 37 wonderful years side-by-side with the love of her life, Rick Neighbours. Partners since April 1989, they officially wed on September 1, 2001. They built a life anchored in deep friendship and unconditional love. Above all else, family came first. Nothing brought Arlene more pride than her daughter, Megan, and her absolute favorite title in life was “Nana”. Her grandchildren, Graycie and Atley, were her world; her eyes lit up sharing stories of their achievements in sports, horseback riding, and art.
Raised by a line of strong women, Arlene inherited a fiery, protective spirit, a quick sense of humor, and a radiant smile topped by her signature red hair. She was the glue of her family—always rolling up her sleeves, looking out for others, and surrounding herself with loved ones. Known for her loving sign-off of, “Love you more,” she was the kind of fiercely loyal friend who faced life head-on, always ready to step up for those she cared about.
A natural athlete. Arlene excelled in fastball, softball, slowpitch, broomball, and hockey. She shared her love of sports by coaching power skating & even Megan’s school soccer team. Arlene was an avid sports fan. She and Rick faithfully watched baseball and hockey on TV—always proudly cheering on their nephew, Jake Neighbours, as he played in the NHL for the St. Louis Blues.
Her career was a reflection of her vibrant, community-oriented heart, serving friends and neighbors over the years at the DaMar gas station restaurant, Smitty’s restaurant, Choice Nutrition, Spa Fitness by Linda, and Comfy Kennels, where her love for animals truly shone.
Arlene’s ultimate “happy place” was at Tobin Lake. She spent her happiest weekends fishing, taking afternoon truck rides with Rick to spot wildlife, and sitting around the campfire with a cold Coors Light and Clamato in hand, sharing stories, playing cards, and making memories with family and friends.
Throughout her courageous battle with cancer, Arlene fought like a warrior, never complaining, keeping a positive spirit, and cherishing every extra moment she was given.
She is lovingly remembered by her husband, Rick Neighbours; her daughter, Megan Barnett, and son-in-law, Jordan; her treasured grandchildren, Graycie Keller and Atley Barnett; her sister, Monica Parker and husband Mark, nephew Dawson Schuler; her brother Brett Weed and sister-in-law Ashley; and her father Roger Weed.
Arlene was reunited in heaven with those who went before her: her beloved mother Marlene Weed; her mother-in-law Lois Neighbours; her father-in-law Bruce Neighbours; her grandfather Herbert Walton; her grandparents Don and Nina Vineyard, and her grandparents Rita and Gordon Weed.
