Bertha “Dolly Luella Andal was born on January 21st, 1933, near Resource Saskatchewan to Thomas Andal and Louise Hovden. She was born on the farm in the cold of winter. Her Uncle Bert was asked to ride into town to register her birth, in doing so he decided that she should be named after him and registered her as Bertha which angered her parents especially her mother. Following this, Louise started calling her Dolly, which is the name most knew her by today.
She was one of nine children and the second youngest of five girls. As a sister she was caring, kind, protective and supportive. She was also no nonsense and quick to put her siblings in place if needed. Dolly went to Queens Park School just outside Star City and it was in this area where met her husband, Norman Pedersen, while attending a picnic at South Star School. They married on August 6th, 1951 at South Star Lutheran Church. Dolly and Norman settled on a farm near Resource Sk. They had their first daughter Louise Pedersen in 1952, and their second daughter Norma Pedersen in 1953. Dolly was a loving mother, home maker, excellent cook, and a great friend to many.
Her husband Norman passed away in 1974 following a battle with cancer. Dolly sold the farm and moved to Melfort where she bought her house. In Melfort Dolly worked hard as a cook, at Belle’s clothing store, as a florist, and at Parkland in the kitchen. Dolly worked with and owned Sarah’s Attic with her daughter Norma. Her creative talent was shown in her floral work, merchandising, and beautiful displays. Dolly helped raise her grandchild Sarah and was always home after school and ready to do some baking.
Dolly was loved and cherished her family, her house was a hub with nieces, nephews, siblings, and friends who frequently stopped by for coffee, a sweet snack and often a game of cards. Dolly loved to play hand and foot canasta and was quite competitive, and would always forgive you if you won after the game was over!
Dolly is survived by her grandchild Sarah Hedlin (Briana) after losing her daughters Lousie Pedersen in 1980 and Norma Remus (Ron) in 2023.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, April 11, 2026 at Fedusiak Funeral Chapel at 1:00 PM, with a reception to follow after the interment at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Melfort, SK.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Diabetes Canada in her name. Arrangements entrusted to Fedusiak Funeral Chapel & Crematorium (306)752-3838.
