Borge Larsen was born in Sandby Lundemarken, Denmark on March 27, 1931 to parents Helga and Albert Larsen. After completing Co-op College and an apprenticeship, he emigrated to Canada in October, 1953 to find work in a co-op in Saskatchewan. Borge started out in Saskatoon, then Craik and eventually transferred to Broadview. In Broadview he met Patricia Hester and they were married on August 7th, 1956. They moved to Naicam where Borge became the manager of the Naicam Co-op Grocery Store for a number of years before leaving to pursue other options. Borge and Pat went on to have 7 children – 6 boys and 1 girl. Borge started Naicam Greenhouses around 1963 and started Borge’s Floorcovering some time after that. He also at one point sold appliances and sold and installed oil furnaces before settling into the floorcovering business that 5 of his 6 sons would take up as a trade; his other son Terry eventually took over Naicam Greenhouses. Borge continued working in the floorcovering business for a number of years and also started building houses when he was in his 50’s. This became his primary focus for the remainder of his working years and he built over 80 houses, not retiring from that until he was 77. In his retirement he continued to build sheds for sale into his early 80’s. Borge was an extremely hard worker and continued to work as long as he could as he found a lot of enjoyment in it. He was proud of the fact he had 14 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren and was very happy to see them when they would come for visits. He was also very proud of his Danish heritage and would often talk about “the old country”. One of his favorite things to do in his later years was his daily trips for coffee at the Naicam Co-op Lumberyard. They even gave him his own chair and brought him his coffee when he stopped by – he always enjoyed the visiting.
Borge will be sadly missed by his wife of 64 years Patricia Larsen and his children: Dale Larsen, Larry (Sherry) Larsen, David (Nicky) Larsen, Terry Larsen, Troy (Leah) Larsen, Gina (Gerry) Guttormson, Marcus (Kristal) Larsen; his grandchildren: Michael Larsen, Jacklyn Larsen (Justin Steeves), Jillian (Curtis) Huseby, Mitchell Larsen, Tyler (Audra) Larsen, Kaly (Todd) Coleman, Logan Larsen, Dillan Larsen, Jager Larsen, Meagan (Samuel) Jackson, Bridget Guttormson (Ben Van Breugel), Sam Guttormson, Austin Larsen, Sydney Larsen; his great grandchildren: Brooklyn, Jack and Ivan Larsen, Emily Steeves, Taylor and Nixon Coleman, James Jackson, Henry and Mathilda Guttormson. Borge is survived by his brother Benny (Lise) Larsen and sister Sonja (Erik) Neilsen in Denmark. He was pre-deceased by his parents Albert and Helga Larsen.
