It is with heavy hearts the family announces the passing of Edith Baptist on February 23, 2026 at the age of 98.
Edith was born September 2,1927 in Delisle, Saskatchewan to William and Clara (Durham) Ganton. She was one of eleven children. The family later moved to the Melfort area and farmed in Central Park and Whitome areas. Despite growing up during the dirty thirties, she shared many adventures and had many fond memories of growing up on the farm with her siblings. She always had a soft spot in her heart for babies, dogs and horses.
Edith completed her schooling in Star City and then attended Normal School in Saskatoon to become a teacher. Her first teaching post was at the Percieville School (Pathlow area) in 1948.
Edith married Clifford Baptist on August 4, 1952. They resided at Pathlow and then Naisberry where Cliff was the Sask Wheat Pool Agent before moving NW of Star City to farm in 1968. They welcomed sons Lyle and Glen while at Pathlow and children Colleen, Bonnie and Kenneth while at Naisberry.
Edith and Cliff retired from farming in 1979 and moved to Star City. Edith enjoyed her garden and flowers and she was actively involved in the community as a member of the Star City Housing Authority, the United Church, and the Royal Purple.
Edith was predeceased by her husband Clifford in 1992, sons: Lyle in 2018, Glen in 2016 and Ken in 2024, and granddaughter Jacqueline in 1985.
She will be lovingly remembered by daughters: Colleen (Cam) and Bonnie (Greg); daughters-in-law: Corinne and Vicki; grandchildren: Corey (Tammy), Jamey (Farrah), Chrissy (Derek), Robin (Brandi), Riley (Kailey), Naomi (Brandon), Noella (Andrej), Emma (Kenneth), Wade, Will, Leevi, Kimberlee, Justin (Melanie), Travis (Marissa), Amanda (Kevin) and their families.
She is also survived by sister Ruth Prytula, sister-in-law Jean Hawrychuk and numerous nieces and nephews.
As per Edith’s wishes, there will not be a funeral service.
The family wishes to extend our heartfelt thanks to the staff of the Arborfield Special Care Lodge for the wonderful care she received during her time there.
