Clarence William Baptist

It is with great sadness, but with peace, that we announce the passing of our father, grandfather and great grandfather. Clarence William Baptist passed away peacefully at the Melfort Union Hospital on July 15, 2020 at the age of 92
Clarence was born on September 29, 1927 near Yorkton Sask. to David Arthur and Elizabeth Baptist. Before his first birthday he moved with his family to the Star City District. He was the 7th child of a family of 14 children.
He married Doris (Marlene) Helstrom on November 4, 1955. They lived at the Melfort Research Station until 1969 when they purchased their home in Melfort. They were happily married for 61 years and were blessed with six children. After Marlene’s passing in April 2017, Clarence moved to Legion Place where he resided at the time of his death.
Clarence worked at the Melfort Research Station for 30 years, retiring in 1983. He then worked another 8 years for the City of Melfort Parks and Recreation until retiring fully at the age of 65.
Clarence loved his sports. Anything that had a score he would watch on TV. His favourite teams were the Toronto Blue Jays and the Toronto Maple Leafs. During his retirement he bowled, curled and golfed for many years. He was also a Melfort Mustang season ticket holder for over 25 years. After his heart surgery in 2013 he had to resort to be more of a spectator – but not bad for someone 85+ years of age at the time.
He is survived by his children:
Kevin (Bev) and two children: Tyler (Candice) and Jenna (Chase)
Rodger and two children: Nicole (Haley) and their two children: Grayson and Payton; Shawn (Tiffany)
Darwin (Lynette) and two children: Stacie (Brandon) and their two children: Burke and Holden; Alicia
Rob (Christina) and three children: Braden, Madison and Ella
Val (Charlie) and daughter Jodi (Jason)
Lois (Dennis) and two children: Chelsey (Devon) and their two children: Kayden and Berlyn; Jesse (Amanda) and their two: children Emersyn and Kesslyr.
His siblings: Ross Baptist, Beatrice Shipley and Jean Hawrychuk
He will be missed by his brother-in-law Vernon (Cheryle) Helstrom; sisters-in-law: Vipsen and Jean Helstrom and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife Marlene, his parents, his brothers: Harold, Clifford, Ronald, Kenneth; his sisters: Coral, Kathleen, Ethel, Dorothy, Elsie and Thelma.
He will be forever in our hearts. May he rest in peace with all those have gone before him.
Due to Covid 19 the family will be having a private graveside service on July 19, 2020. For those who would like to pay their respects, may do so at his gravesite at the Melfort Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made in Clarence’s name to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada; or the Canadian Cancer Society. Those wishing to leave condolences for the family may visit the online guestbook at www.fedusiakfuneralchapel.com.
