David Daniel Van Meter passed away peacefully November 25, 2018 with family by his side. Danny was born February 17, 1959 at Carrot River Union Hospital. He is the eldest child of Lawrence (Bud) and Kathleen (Kathy) Van Meter. The family resided on the farm in the Moose Range area. Danny attended school in Carrot River where he enjoyed hockey, football, track and field, and hanging out with many friends.
At the young age of 17, he and his brother Ron joined their parents in his life-long passion in the farming industry. Danny and Ron continued to farm together for the next 42 years. Not long after he began his farming endeavour, he started dating his “soon-to-be wife”, Maggie. Nine years later, they were married on December 21, 1985. During their courtship, Danny finished high school and began working very hard building their cattle operation and grain farm. After harvests, he would set out to Alberta to work for McGregor Construction building power lines during the winters. He also worked for a time at Ward Seeds, sold cookware door-to-door, and curled competitively for enjoyment. His winters were filled with lots of bonspiels and laughter with good friends. Danny took on lots of extra responsibilities such as serving on the North East Health Board, the Community Pasture Board, the local Conservation and Development Authority, and was very passionate about the upkeep and maintenance of the Moose Range Cemetery. 
In 1995, a bouncing baby girl, Ashley, arrived which brought tremendous joy and new challenges to his life. Later in 1998, his son, Logan, came along to also make his life even more exciting. They became the center of his world. He enjoyed following their many sports and meeting all kinds of new people along the journey. 
Danny was never one to miss too many Richie Bros. auctions and was always dragging something home as it could be used to build something else. His mechanical mind and worldly knowledge will be missed by many. There were very few days when someone wasn’t calling to ask his advice about something. Danny ventured off on many road trips to haul ‘stuff’ home. Many stories were created by his adventures for the people that accompanied him. 
The last few years of his life were filled with many doctors appointments and cancer treatments. As he fought a hard battle with great dignity, he refused to let his diagnosis prevent him from living his life well and spending as much time as possible with his children and Maggie. He continued his work on the farm whenever possible. His days spent at St. Paul’s Palliative Care unit were very comfortable and filled with much appreciated visits from friends and family. He always enjoyed visiting and sharing laughter and stories with others and he was able to do this to the end. We will miss his larger than life presence, his knowledge and opinions (whether needed or not), his common sense, his long-winded phone calls with Statistics Canada, and his love.
He is survived by his wife Maggie, his daughter Ashley and his son Logan (Shayla); his parents Lawrence and Kathleen; his brother Ronald (Gwen), nephews Benjamin and Brody (Lindsey) & McKenna; his sister Barbara (Don) Walton, nieces Savannah (Jeff) Will & Jorja and Rebecca (Kirk) Walton; his sister Sandy (Peter) Rudniski, Hailey and Cole; his mother-in-law Margaret Bonish; brother-in-law Ron (Kim) Bonish; nephew Delaney (Ashley) Bonish, Luca & Declan; niece Brittany (Tiera) & Stevie; nephew Deyton (Jessica); and sister-in-law Sandra Bonish. He was predeceased by his father-in-law Elmer Bonish. He is held close by his many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
