Debbi Sylvia McDermid (Naber) was born on October 13, 1956, in Vancouver, B.C. She passed away peacefully on January 18, 2023, at the age of 66.
Debbi grew up on a farm just northeast of Melfort. She attended Reynolds Elementary School in Melfort and then went on and completed her secondary studies at Melfort and Unit Comprehensive Collegiate in 1974. After high school, Debbi worked for her sister Pat’s taxi service. It was also around this time that she found her daring side and began racing stock cars.
In 1981, Debbi married Dave McDermid. They moved to a few different cities, but eventually returned home to settle in Melfort. Together they had 4 children: Matthew, Jennine, Ashley, and Nicole.
In 1994, Debbi became an EMT, and she and her husband purchased Melfort Ambulance. They ran the business together until 1999. After many years in the ambulance service, Debbi went on to work at Extra Foods. She stayed there for several years before starting work at the Bargain Shop. After her time there, she worked at Wright’s Greenhouse before having to retire due to health issues.
Debbi loved being a mom and being around her family. She enjoyed gardening and being in nature, whether out at the lake or visiting the old farm. Debbi was also a fan of puzzles and would often be found playing a game of Mahjong. She cherished her friends and was always up for a visit over coffee.
Debbi will be missed by her children: Jennine McDermid (Kyle Penner) and Ashley McDermid (Brett Weed); her siblings: Brian (Trisha) Naber, Robert (Sandra) Naber, Eileen Naber, and Pat Naber along with many nieces, nephews, and other family, and dear friends.
Debbi was predeceased by: her son Matthew and her daughter Nicole; her parents Marvin and Inez Naber; and her siblings Allan Naber and Connie Naber.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Wednesday, January 25, 2023 at 2:00 PM at the Park Avenue Bible Church, Melfort, Saskatchewan. Memorial Donations may be made the North East SPCA (PO Box 189 Melfort, SK S0E 1A0).
