Mary Doreen Anastasia (Stasiuk) Syniuk was born on November 18, 1938 to William Max and Mary Ann Elizabeth Stasiuk at the Melfort Union Hospital.
She attended school at Resource, SK and high school at M.C.C.I. in Melfort. After graduating, she moved to London, ON to work for London Life Insurance Company. Later she received her Nurse’s training in Calgary, AB and worked at the Holy Cross Hospital in Calgary for a time. She returned to Melfort due to her mother’s declining health. Doreen then worked with Crop Insurance for the Federal/Provincial Government and took a leave when her father became ill and passed in 1982. It was then that she retired.
Doreen loved music. She was a self-taught, talented musician. She started playing the accordion at age 7. She also played violin, guitar and the keyboard which she enjoyed immensely.
After meeting Paul, the two of them travelled. They had a memorable trip to Kimberley, BC, where they helped set the World’s Record for most accordion players (644) at the International Oldtime Accordion Championships.
Left to mourn is the love of her life Paul Flonder; niece Heather Dumas (Mike) and family; nephews: Darrin Stasiuk (Lorna), Larry Hanson (Norma), Darrell Stasiuk, and Devon Stasiuk (Stacy) and families.
Doreen was predeceased by her parents William (Mary Ann) Stasiuk; Dmytro Syniuk and her brother William Marvin Stasiuk.
A Private Funeral Service was held for Doreen. Interment will take place in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
Friends so wishing may make memorial contributions to the Canadian Diabetes Association.
