Earl Orrell Bjerland was born on Jan 18, 1946 at the Rose Valley Hospital to Orlo and Emma Bjerland. He grew up on Rosedale Farm just northeast of Rose Valley with his siblings Allen, Anita, Ester and Ole. This is where his love of nature and farming began. He attended West Shore School and Rose Valley Highschool. In 1964 he met the love of his life, Bea Coulter. They were married in the Rose Valley United Church in 1967 and moved to Thompson, Manitoba where he worked underground at the INCO mine. In 1978 they moved back to Rose Valley to farm and raise their two children John and Jodene. He instilled in them family values and supported his kids’ activities and interests.
Earl was an entrepreneur, owning and operating his own corral cleaning business for many years and after he sold the business, he started a trucking business doing long-hauling into the states, hauling gravel for road construction, hauling anhydrous or hopper cones or anything that needed transportation. He was a self-taught mechanic and could fix anything. If he wasn’t tending to the livestock, farming or away working, you could find him fixing in the shop.
He had a strong sense of community and would lend a hand wherever he could to anyone in need. He also volunteered his time to manage hockey teams, participated as a member of the United Church Board and local school board. He was a charter member of the Rose Valley & District Kinsmen club and he was chairman of the Winter Festival Committee for many years.
Earl enjoyed many outdoors activities such as fishing, water skiing, camping, hunting and snowmobiling. He took an interest in woodworking and singing in the choir. He liked to travel and always looked forward to seeing their friends at their winter home in Arizona. Earl worked hard and played hard. He had a great sense of humour and loved to make people laugh. He was a family man who had strong ethics and unwavering faith.
In 2017 they moved off the farm at Rose Valley to Melfort, SK to be closer to the grandchildren. He attended many of their activities and always looked forward to family gatherings.
Earl passed way peacefully at the age of 79 on November 23rd at Melfort Hospital.
He will be deeply missed by his soulmate Bea, children John – Austin, Jodene (Daniel Ferre) – Jaxson, Rayne, Rheal, Reese. Two great grandchildren, Bryson and Briar, Siblings – Anita Kulbatski, Ester Czarnocki, Ole (Karen) Bjerland and many nieces and nephews.
Earl was predeceased by his parents Orlo and Emma (Johnson), brother Allen, brothers-in-law Loui Czarnocki, and Leonard Kulbatski.
