It is with great sadness that Donna and Diane Levring, daughters of Earla Levring announce her passing on July 5, 2023, her 94th birthday. It took her 22 1/2 years, but she finally has gone to be with Dad.
Earla Eleanor Levring nee McAllister was born in Moose Jaw on July 5 1929 to Earl and Ruth McAllister, the 4th of 5 children. Earla grew up in Saskatoon and went on to take her nurses training at the Victoria Hospital in PA. She graduated from nursing school in 1952 and nursed around various parts of Canada. She came to Melfort in 1955 and met Jack Levring, whom she married in 1956. They lived on the family farm north of Melfort where they raised two daughters, Donna and Diane. She continued to nurse at Melfort Union Hospital where she was a shift supervisor, later on becoming the clinical instructor for the certified nursing program. Earla also ran the Planned Parenthood Clinic for a time in Melfort.
For a time, she and Jack owned the bowling alley in Melfort. Mom became an avid bowler and YBC coach and they made many lifelong friends.
Volunteerism was important to Earla and she took active roles in Explorers, CGIT, Camp Tapawingo, the Canadian Cancer Society and served on the Board of Directors for Plus Industries.
She and Jack created their most treasured memories at their cabin at Little Bear Lake. From 1965 – 2001. It was the gathering place for family and friends.
With Jack’s sudden passing in 2001, Earla moved off the farm into an apartment in Melfort, then into Deifenbaker Towers and finally Rose Valley Community Manor.
Earla was predeceased by her parents, Earl and Ruth McAllister, her brothers: Keith (Vi), Ronan (Betty) Rae (Dorothy) sister, Carole, and Jack’s brothers, Ray (Edith) and William (Helen) Curtis and brother-in-law Ernie Mckenzie.
She is survived by her daughters, Donna and Diane, and sister-in-law Doris McKenzie as well as many nieces and nephews.
Earla loved animals and hated funerals. As per her request, there will be no funeral, and anyone wishing to make memorial donations in her name, may chose the North East SPCA, PO Box 189 Melfort, SK S0E 1A0, or to a Charity of One’s Choice.
