Elsie Julia Schnyder (Vass)
Elsie Julia Vass was born on December 13, 1930 in Lestock, SK. She was born to Alexander and Mary Vass and had five brothers and two sisters.
At the age of 19, she met Dennis Schnyder. They had a whirlwind courtship and they were married a year later. After three years together, along came their first son Glen. Four more children followed: Joseph, Karen, James and Dawn.
Throughout their life together, Mom wore many hats; beginning with storekeeper/postal clerk in our great grandparents’ general store. After that, Elsie and Dennis purchased small town hotels and motels, where Mom took on the duties of cook, waitress, bartender, janitor, front desk clerk, switchboard operator and laundry attendant. Mom could do anything she set her mind too.
Elsie had a green thumb for both indoor and outdoor plants. She took pride in her beautiful flowers and vegetable gardens. Another outdoor activity Mom enjoyed was fishing, having gone on trips with Dad and close friends.
Elsie was not only our mom, but many of our friends called her Mom too…and she loved that! Our home was “the” meeting place and Mom would always provide her famous homemade pizza, fried chicken or cabbage rolls to all who visited!
Whenever someone thinks of Elsie, these characteristics come to mind: good-natured, kind-hearted, and loving to all.
Elsie is survived by her children: Glen and his children: Lesley. Glen Jr., Matthew and Stephanie; Karen (Ronald Campbell) and their son Kevin; James (Trudi) and their children: Angela (Brent) Friesen, Patrick, Evan, Reid and Parker; Dawn (Daniel) Burlock and their children: Jadyn and Lucas; six great grandchildren; her sisters: Mary and Rose as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband Dennis; her son Joseph; her parents, grandparents and all five brothers.
