Faye Roselia Helstrom was born on July 7th, 1933 to Peter and Roselia. Growing up at the family farm west of Star City was very lively as she was the sixth born of nine children. She cherished her many childhood memories and could often be heard reminiscing about a funny family story from her youth.
After finishing school, Faye began teaching in the rural community of Service. Her teaching career came to an end when she was married and welcomed her daughter, Gay, on May 2nd, 1956 and her son, Randy, on October 23, 1958. She spent many hours taking Gay to 4-H and out to the local swimming holes while she took an active role in Randy’s obsessions of hunting and fishing, and even spent a Mother’s Day out on the boat. She was a devoted, supportive and loving mother with a door that was always open to friends and family. Even though she was busy raising children and working on the farm, she was an actively involved member of the Pleasantdale and Leviathan communities.
When her children were grown, she was employed as the caretaker at Pleasantdale School. She fit in perfectly in the school setting, and made lifelong connections. Faye found love again and was married to Ray Harms in 1981. Unfortunately, Ray passed away a short six months later, leaving a feeling of emptiness in her life. Following retirement, she moved to Melfort. She kept up to date on the happenings in Pleasantdale and maintained her friendships with many dear friends.
The best part of living in Melfort was that she got to pursue her biggest passion: being Gramma. Darla, Dallas, Chantelle, Renee and Jordan quickly understood that Gramma was their biggest fan. Many days and nights were spent at Gramma Faye’s – much of that time was spent showing off the fashions of her dress up box and doing puzzles. She made each holiday special, even throwing an elaborate Halloween Party for the kids and their friends. She ensured they each had pocket money and that they always knew how loved they were. Next, came the great grandkids – Treyton and Aleida. She took such pride in them and her love and adoration was evident.
Her sense of humour served her well as she adjusted to life in Caskey and later Parkland Place. She made special bonds with new friends and staff.
Family was without a doubt the centre of Faye’s world. She was an incredible daughter, sister, mother, wife, gramma, and auntie. She made each person feel so special in their unique way. There was never a problem too big or too small for her. The legacy she leaves with her family is one of love and dedication .
Faye was a natural born storyteller, and everyone who knew and loved her can hold dear the many stories she’s shared over the years. She was a softy with a huge heart- never afraid to share tears and forever letting everyone know they were loved, often by the squeeze of a hand.
Faye was predeceased by: her parents, Peter and Roselia; husband, Ray; siblings and spouses, Lauren & Winnifred, Veryl & Emil Carlson, Arlie, Alvin & Hazel, Clayton, Marlene Baptist, and Hazel & Don Hill.
She will forever be lovingly remembered by: her children: Gay Lindsay, Randy & daughter in-law Lynda Lindsay, grandchildren: Dallas Lindsay, Darla & Corey Faye, Chantelle & Paul Vandertweel, Renee Lindsay, Jordan Lindsay; great grandchildren: Treyton Lindsay & Aleida Vandertweel; brother Vern and sister-in-law Cheryle; in-laws Clarence Baptist, Vip Helstrom, and Jean Helstrom; many adored nieces and nephews; and countless old and new friends.

A Memorial Service was held from the Pleasantdale Community Hall, Pleasantdale, SK on Monday, June 10, 2019 at 2:00 PM. The interment followed in the Pleasantdale Cemetery.
