Florence Marie Coquet
Posted May 15, 2019 | 5:50 PM
Florence Marie Coquet was the 5th child of Florida Fournier and Henri Mahussier. Florence grew up in a loving home with 8 siblings in Pre St. Marie near Bjorkdale, Sk. Even though life was difficult at times, there were many happy memories of singing, berry picking and visiting with family and friends. Their home was always filled with visitors – especially after Sunday Mass.
When Florence left school she worked for a few different families in Tisdale, helping with household chores. Florence’s sister, Marie, married Paul Coquet who had a young handsome brother named Don. Don and Florence met and began corresponding the old way – through mail. This was the beginning of their courtship that turned into marriage on August 12, 1952
Even though Florence and Don did not have children of their own, they helped in many ways with babysitting and providing travel opportunities for many nieces, nephews and other children from close neighbours and friends. Florence and Don were always generous with their time when it came to their family – this created a strong bond that we were so blessed to enjoy.
Florence was very skilled with her hands sewing many beautiful quilts and extensive needlepoint pictures. Florence and Don travelled to many places around the world – which was not very common for that time. After retirement they made Phoenix their home in the winter enjoying time with many new made friends.
When Florence and Don needed a little help to remain in their home they were blessed to have had some special angels who made them have the luxury of staying in their home. Thank you Lilianne, Genevive, Rowena, and Meli your love and kindness was appreciated. When Florence and Don were no longer able to stay in their home they moved to Chateau Providence in St. Brieux. Thank you to the staff for the wonderful care and who made the Chateau their home.
Florence is predeceased by her husband, Donatien Coquet, her parents and many brothers, sisters, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law as well as nieces and nephews. She is lovingly remembered by her brother Albert (Betty) Mahussier, Keith Mahussier, sisters Aurore (Lionel) Hamonic, Ivone Hagel, Henriette (Harry) Pitzel, Marjorie (Vardy) Williams, as well as sisters-in-law, Therese Mahussier and Agnes Coquet, and many nieces, and nephews
