It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our Mom, Fran Johnson. We have been so blessed to have had her in our lives for all of the time that we did.
Mom was born in Birch Hills, SK on Sept. 8th, 1935. She was the second child to Lyle and Signa Baker. She was an active young person who enjoyed playing basketball and singing in the United Church choir while taking her schooling in Melfort. She had a beautiful singing voice and we will all miss her birthday calls that always began with singing.
Mom moved on to employment in Melfort first as an usher at The Grand Theatre and then as a teller with the Bank of Nova Scotia. She married Dad, Lorne Johnson, on Feb. 7th, 1953. They built a good life together on the farm with no shortage of hard work. Mom always had a large garden, canning everything, making butter and raising chickens to name a few.
Mom really enjoyed her curling years in Fairy Glen where she made lifelong friendships. She loved her flowers, they were always perfectly tended to and beautiful. We grew up coming home to freshly baked bread and many other goodies, this is also a memory her grandchildren will hold close.
Mom was a very talented seamstress and sewed for us as we grew up and then at Parkland hospital where she worked for many years when we were older.
Mom & Dad enjoyed spending time at their cabin at Lower Fishing Lake, camping and travelling with friends. Family was always most important to both of them. They enjoyed almost 63 years together.
Mom lived with diabetes for over 41 years and after Dad’s passing her health declined. She moved from their farm in 2017 and then to Parkland Place in 2019.
Left to love and remember her are her children Janice (Floyd), Jill (Garry), Jerry (Joan). Grandchildren Donna, Darcy, Devin, Cody, Charity, Angela, Deanne, Jeremy, Pam, Mikel and their families. 14 great grandchildren and 1 great great granddaughter. Her sister Lena Ramsdell and many nieces and nephews.
Mom was always and a very kind & loving person with an amazing sense of humour. She will be deeply missed by so many.
We believe that she and Dad are now waltzing to “Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain”.
Memorial contributions in memory of Fran may be directed to the Parkland Place Residents Council. Due to Covid-19 a Service will be announced at a later date.
