Frank was born in Tisdale on October 29, 1940. He attended school at Willow Hill, Sylvania, and Tisdale. After high school he worked for few years on the family farm south of Tisdale in the Willow Hill district. He started with Sask Power/Sask Energy in 1960, first in construction, then working his way to gas utility man, retiring in June of 2003.
Frank married Melody Middlemiss on August 3, 1968 and they had 2 children, Brad born in 1969 and Colleen in 1972. The family then had a few years of moving: first to Saskatoon, then Melfort, followed by a short stint in Kindersley returning back home to Tisdale in the spring of 1975.
Over the years Frank enjoyed playing ball and curling. In retirement he learned to play tennis and pickle ball which he became very good at. Golf… not so much! Loved being on the course, but was usually frustrated with his hard slices to the left and missed putts! Our family spent many happy summer holidays in the trailer traveling to Saskatchewan lakes, but always returning to our favorite, Greenwater. Frank was always interested and involved in the activities of his own kids and this carried on with his grandchildren. Batting practice, tennis, fishing, camping, biking, were only a few of the many activities he loved doing with them. Crokinole tournaments were popular in our house, and he often was on the champion team. Everyone wanted to be Grandpa’s partner! Frank and Melody have always been active in St. Matthew’s Anglican Church. He could often be seen doing yard work, cleaning, shoveling, fixing and keeping the furnaces in running order. Frank and Melody spent some memorable winters in Texas.
In retirement driving the grain-cart for Cresswell Farms got him back to his farm roots and he loved days spent on the cart and the delicious family meals in the field! We feel blessed that in the last few years we’ve been able to enjoy great family trips to Disneyland, Jamaica, The Dominican and shared many family times together.
Frank will lovingly be remembered as a quiet, thoughtful, honest, fair and hard working man with a deep devotion to his family, friends, work and church, who would go out of his way to help with whatever needed to be done. He was a true example of the quote, Love is not always what you say, it’s what you do.
He was predeceased by his father R.N “Casey”, mother Irene, father-in-law Roger Middlemiss, mother-in-law Olive and brother-in-law Jim Legin.
Frank will be missed by all. Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 49 years, Melody, son Brad (Patty), daughter Colleen (TJ), grandchildren Logan & Brett Hughes, Ashlyn & Trace Hinton, sister Vi Legin, nephew Adrian, niece Cindy, their families as well as his extended family and many friends.
