Fred was born on May 1st, 1930 at his parents home (Robert and Louise) at Block No. 6 Fort-a-La-Corne. Growing up on a farm in the 30’s was a mixture of fun times and hard work. He attended school until grade 7 at which time it was decided he had enough education and was needed to help at home on the family farm.
As the years passed, he began working for nearby farmers and this is where he met the love of his life, Argyle Edin. They were married on November 14th, 1952. Together they owned and operated the Brockington General Store and Post Office for 30 years. A family was started when Rodney was born in September of 1953. Barbara joined him in September of 1955 and with Gregory being born in July of 1959 the family was complete.
Summer trips to Candle Lake, destinations to Mexico and NW U.S.A. and trips to the west coast to visit relatives in Port Alberni made life long memories.
The purchase of a lot at Whiteswan Lake (Whelan Bay) in 1978 provided everyone with hours of outdoor recreation. Mom and dad spent much of the summer months there after retirement and who did catch the biggest lake trout?
A decision was made in the spring of 1982 to sell the store and they moved to Melfort. Life changed with only the rental properties to manage so they had more free time to spend at their cabin and to travel.
Years passed and moms’ failing health necessitated the need for her to move to Parkland Place in 2017. Dads’ world changed but he remained her faithful companion visiting her daily until her passing on October 20th, 2018.
He continued to live in their home until he suffered a stroke on October 21st, 2022. His sense of pride and dedication served him well throughout his life.
