Garry Dale Klein was born in Regina on February 22nd, 1949, to Cecil and Katherine (June) Klein. He passed away December 21st, 2022, of complications from heart surgery.
Garry grew up in Melfort until he turned seven and then the family, which included Garry and his 6 siblings, moved to the Glen Mary School District. Garry attended Pahonan School and then went to high school in Kinistino. After his schooling, he had various jobs in the Medicine Hat, Alberta area. When he came back to Saskatchewan, he worked on a survey crew near Bjorkdale. Shortly thereafter, he met his future wife Myrna. After that summer, he began working for the Dairy Producers in Tisdale.
Garry and Myrna were married July 5, 1969, and together they had two sons: Derek Ryan, born on September 22, 1971, and Devin Gregory, born on August 14, 1974.
In the fall of 1974, Garry was transferred to Melfort as they were shutting the plant in Tisdale down. He became a wholesale truck driver and delivered product in a large area that spanned from Hudson Bay to Watson and every small town in between. After the Dairy Producers in Melfort closed, Garry hauled gravel for Doug Folden Trucking in the winter and drove truck for Prairie North Co-op in the summer. Eventually, he worked seasonal at the Co-op until he decided to retire.
Garry played recreational hockey and fastball for quite a few years, until he injured his knee. Garry was always busy with his boys as they were involved in various sports, and he loved helping out by being a coach or manager. Garry and Myrna attended Derek and Devin’s hockey and ball games as much as possible, even as the boys became adults. Similarly, Garry and Myrna attended many sporting events their grandchildren were involved in, which included hockey, soccer, ball or lacrosse.
Garry and Myrna loved to take winter holidays whenever they could. For a few years they spent some time in Arizona, and the last few years they vacationed in Mexico. A couple of years ago, Garry and Myrna purchased a trailer at the Kipabiskau Lake golf course. Here they would spend their summers hanging out and playing golf poorly.
Garry is survived by his loving wife Myrna; his two sons: Derek and Devin (Carolyn); five grandchildren: Makayla, Abby, Mason, Eli and Noah and three great grandchildren: Bailey, Lincoln and Lennox. He also leaves behind his sister Gloria (Elmer) and brother William (Memory); as well as brother-in-law Cameron (Betty Anne), sisters-in-law Donna, Debbie (Jim) and Shelly, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents as well as his siblings John, James, Catherine and Marlene; along with his father-in-law and mother-in-law Calvert and Irene Irving, and his brother-in-law Ray.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, January 6, 2023 at 2:00 PM at the Kerry Vickar Centre, Melfort, SK. Memorial donations may be made in Garry’s name to a charity of one’s choice.
