Genevieve “Jenny” Caughlin
Jenny was born to Joe and Helen Krawczyk in Poland, immigrating to Canada at the age of 4. She grew up in the Veillardville District, 8 miles from the town of Hudson Bay.
Jenny started to work early in life and came to Tisdale at the age of 16 to take a job as a waitress at the Coffee Shop. It was there that she met our father, Allen Caughlin, and they were married in 1946. Together they raised their three children and lived the mixed farm life at the edge of the town of Tisdale until Allen’s passing in 1994.
Jenny was predeceased by her husband Allen, and sisters Sophie Thomas and Vonda Krawczyk. She is survived by her three children: Roger of Indian Head; Marilyn (George Peters) of Regina and Jim (Glenda) of Tisdale. She is also survived by six grandchildren: Cori Caughlin (Sebastian Chlebek) of Calgary, Alberta; Bob Caughlin (Amy Lewis) of Calgary; Paul (Linda) Caughlin of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan; Becky Whaley of Saskatoon; Dan Whaley (Kristy Norman) of Prince Albert; and Lisa Whaley (Paul Mitchell) of Regina, Saskatchewan and nine great grandchildren: Liv, Ruby, Noah, James, Timothy, Claire, Wynn, Sullivan and Everly. She is also survived by her sister Josephine Kulyk of Hudson Bay, Saskatchewan and numerous nieces and nephews throughout Canada.
Jenny was a proud member of St. Paul’s United Church of Tisdale, the Rebekah Lodge and a lifelong fan of the Brooklyn Dodgers /later the Los Angeles Dodgers. She loved nothing more than an evening of playing cards, either cribbage or Canasta and she and Allen greatly enjoyed square dancing. Another long-term pastime was bowling.
Jenny was always a wonderful cook and homemaker. In all the years on the farm, the work of milking cows, separating cream, making butter, caring for chickens and picking eggs, and growing a big garden all supported the wonderful food that we, as a family, grew up with. It was a lot of work to do her part in making our farm the beautiful home that it was, and she did it all with grace and dignity and without complaint.
As Jenny never drove, numerous friends in Tisdale were involved in helping her get to bowling, cribbage nights, church, and to get groceries and other tasks. For these and many other kindnesses the family is grateful.
The family is also grateful to the staff of Victoria Park Personal Care Community for making Mom’s final days as comfortable as possible.
At Jenny’s request there will be no funeral. Anyone wishing to make a donation in her memory may consider the Tisdale Hospital Auxiliary.
