It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Harold Earle Helmkay on January 16, 2025. Remaining to cherish his memory are his wife of 57 years Darlene; his daughers, HEATHER (Neil) Willerton of Fairy Glen and their daughters, Brooke (Tyler) Yuzdepski of Saskatoon, Meagon (Kevin) Larsen of Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta and their sons Sam and Mark, Alysha (Brett) Selinger of Regina and their sons Noah and Elijah; TRACEY (Richard) Nielsen of Melfort and their son Dane; DAWNE (Jason) Ilnisky of Saskatoon and their daughter Alexa and son Nolan.
Dad grew up on the family farm just outside of Kamsack, SK. He was the baby of the family with five brothers and one sister!
We always loved to hear his stories of the “events” on the farm – and there were many!
Mom and Dad were married in Regina on September 2, 1967. Dad’s employment at that time was with a drywalling company. Two years later Dad went to work on a large mixed farming operation near Lumsden. They were there for two years when Dad was offered a position with the Sask Wheat Pool in Naicam as a grain buyer. In 1972 he was transferred to Fairy Glen where he was an agent for three elevators. He stayed with the Wheat Pool for six years and then started Fairy Glen Sewage Service in 1978. He semi-retired with the vac-truck in 1985 and started carpentry work which was his passion and continued with that well into retirement.
Dad’s great loves were his wife, children, grandchildren and all of his family! He was an avid outdoorsman. Mom and Dad loved fishing at Jan Lake and went on several hunting adventures together.
Dad had a full and happy life that was lived well! He was such a hard working man who cared for the community and touched so many people with his contagious smile!
Our family would like to send a heartfelt thank you to all of the staff at Parkland Place for Dad’s wonderful care over the last two years. As well, we’d like to thank the staff at the Melfort Hospital for their care and kindness during his final days.
A Come and Go Celebration of Life Service will be held from the Fairy Glen Community Centre on Saturday, January 25, 2025 from 2 to 3 PM.
