Henry Walter Knutson was born in Star City on November 19, 1937 to Torger and Kari Knutson. He attended school first at the South Star School and later in Star City. After leaving school he headed to BC to work in the logging industry where he stayed until a log crushed his arm in 1959. The Saskatchewan Prairies were calling him home and he returned to farm with Kaye Wilson. He lived and worked on the farm until he & Gail retired and moved to Melfort in 2002.
Henry married Gail McKee in June 1966. They were blessed with a son, Kendall, born in 1969.
Henry spent many winters volunteering with Star City Minor Sports and either coaching or managing his son’s hockey teams. Henry was an avid bowler and wasn’t above bragging about his high scores to his family! He loved hockey and was an avid fan of the Melfort Mustangs, right from the start of their inaugural season. He was also a great fan of any team his grandsons played on. Many times he and Gail would make the trip to Star City to watch a game, but then race to Melfort to make it back in time to watch the warm up for the Mustangs game!
Henry had a great sense of humor and was always ready to share a laugh and a drink with friends. In his retirement, he was always happy to help out and drive friends to appointments and the Grandpa Taxi made many miles taking his grandsons wherever they needed to be. He was very proud of his family and they will miss him dearly.
Henry was predeceased by his parents Torger and Kari; Parents in-law Lloyd and Pat McKee; his sisters Bella (Don) Mitchell, Agnes (Ernie) Mazzei, brother Ken and nephew Torrey.
Left to mourn are his wife Gail; son Kendall; Grandsons Cole and Jace and their mother Layla; Sister in-law Betty Ann (Jim) Kielbiski and sons Craig (Moira), Sheldon (Liz) and their families; many other nieces and nephews, and friends.
A Private Family Graveside Service will be held in the Star City Cemetery at a later date.
Friends so wishing may make memorial contributions to the Star City United Church, or to a Charity of One’s Choice.
