Inez Florence McLean

Inez was born at home on a farm near Glen Bain, southwest SK on April 26, 1922. She had a happy childhood, one of 4 sisters, Eleanor, Elizabeth, and Joyce, to parents Neil and Florence Hamilton. She often mentioned being driven to school in winter by horse drawn sleigh with sisters by her father when roads were impassable.
After high school she attended nursing school at Regina General hospital and graduated in 1947.
She worked In Prince Albert hospital and spent a year in Toronto attending U of T and receiving her degree as a operating room nursing instructor.
She met her future husband Cam via a close cousin of his, Grace Stevenson. She was married in 1952, moving to Melfort and raising her 3 children, Betty Jean, Ross, and Grace. She remained in Melfort for the next 70 years.
Inez was involved with church and related activities: including Sunday school, bible study and ladies’ group.
Inez was a long time serving member of The Order of Eastern Star in Melfort. The Mental Health Association was another group she participated in.
Inez enjoyed music. As children we looked forward to Reader’s Digest deliveries of boxed albums on a regular basis. Cam once commented that he “did sell records” too.
As a senior Inez would swim at the indoor leisure centre in Melfort with her friend Eileen Green.
Inez loved to cook and have friends over for dinner frequently.
Inez loved making greeting cards and decorating them for friends and family and sending them out for all occasions during the year. She also did needle point.
Inez was predeceased by her parents: Florence and Neil Hamilton; husband Cameron McLean; sisters: Joyce (Albert) Moore, Eleanor Hodgins (Len Tait) (Bill Hodgins), and Elizabeth (Alfred) Peach.
Inez is survived by her three children and their families: Betty (Rob) and their son Jordan (Chantal) and their son Jasper; Ross and his children: Hugh (Ruby), Megan McLean; Grace McLean and numerous nieces and nephews.
Our beloved mother embodied love, generosity, kindness, wisdom, and based on the love of the Lord our God.
P.S.: We can’t forget her great sense of humor.
A service celebrating her life was held from St. James’ Presbyterian Church, Melfort, on Saturday, September 24, 2022 at 2:00 PM with Pastor Larry Rempel officiating. The interment followed in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Melfort.
Friends so wishing may make memorial contributions to a charity of one’s choice.
