Irene was the daughter of Frank and Jean (Eugenia) Henderson. She was born on a farm in the Doncrest area and grew up in the Kelvington area along with her brothers Glen and Wilson. On July 11, 1964, Irene married Dan Wait, whom she met while teaching in Kinistino. They built a home, grew a garden and successfully raised three children: Hilary, Aubrey and Beryl.

Irene was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was a member of St. Andrews United Church congregation. She was active in the church UCW and teaching Sunday school. She took up photography joining the Northern Image Photographers and took many photographs of nature’s smallest creatures.

Irene was a keen advocate of continued education, teaching and learning. She returned to her teaching career following an empty nest, upgrading her teaching degree, substitute teaching in schools and volunteer literacy at libraries.

Irene kept in touch with her family and friends via letters and cards and attended family/school reunions and recording family histories and stories.  She enjoyed holiday family meals, game night (board or cards) with friends and a good book. She enjoyed daily morning walks, and time at the Anglin Lake cabin camping trips North with longtime friends Jerry and Gloria Beattie.

Irene is lovingly remembered by her children: Hilary, Aubrey, Beryl; grandchildren: Jayden and Trenton; cousin Lois Henderson, sister-in-law Florence Sinclair, family and friends

Irene was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Dan; her parents Frank and Jean Henderson; her brothers: Glen and Wilson Henderson, and her cousin Lillian Meneilly.

Thanks to the Staff of the Weldon Country Villa and Jubilee Lodge for all their support and kindness while Irene was a resident.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2025 at 2:00 PM at St. Andrew’s United Church, Kinistino, SK.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
