We are broken at the loss of our husband, dad, brother, son & friend, Jeffery Read Gendall, who was called home to be with Jesus very suddenly on Wednesday, March 26. Jeff was born to his loving parents, Leonard and Brenda Gendall, in Prince Albert on June 2, 1976. He is the oldest of 4 children, Lisa (Steve), Amy (Les) & Kris (Laura). After moving to Regina in grade 2, Jeff was introduced to Regina Lions Band and Boy Scouts- things he was always proud of. Jeff loved to find reasons to remind us of his times at Band Camp, or as a Chief Scout!
After receiving his Bachelors of Education degree at the University of Regina, Jeff spent time travelling Europe and teaching in small towns. Thankfully, he got a job at the Saskatchewan Science Center, where he met the love of his life at her interview. Jeff and Jill discovered their common interests and shared faith while cleaning the bat cave… and the rest was history. After 15 months of travelling and teaching English in Taiwan, Jeff and Jill were married in Regina and began their life together in Melfort. He taught high school in Pleasantdale and Gronlid and finally settled in as the grade 5/6 teacher at Reynolds Central School. At Reynolds, Jeff discovered his passion for middle years. He inspired countless students with his sense of humour, his desire for deep connection, and his joy of learning.
Jeff clung to Romans 12:1-2, “…in view of the mercies of God, I urge you to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God; this is your true worship. Do not be conformed to the patterns of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may discern what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God..” He was honoured to serve at our church as a volunteer youth leader, worship team drummer, and an elder alongside many of his best friends.
Jeff has three boys who were the pride of his life, and the call on his heart to teach, lead, and love. Jeff’s deep-rooted faith, his joy in running, excitement of a new Avengers or Star Wars movie, loud laugh, enthusiasm for a family game or adventure, and his servant heart can all be seen in Hayden, Ewan, and Kingston. His legacy is immense, and we cling tightly to these memories.
We know we don’t mourn like those who have no hope. Jeff knew that he was saved only by the grace of Jesus, and he trusted in the promise of eternal life through Him.
We thank each of you for the love and support you have shown us during this unexpected and difficult time. We feel the hope of Christ sustaining us through His body that has surrounded us.
A Funeral Service for Jeff was held from the Melfort Evangelical Covenant Church on Saturday, April 5, 2025 with Pastor Kors Pater officiating. The interment followed in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
