Joan Barker

Joan Margaret Barker was born at Holy Family Hospital in Prince Albert, SK on December 2, 1948. Joan passed away peacefully July 11, 2018 in St. Paul’s Hospital with her family around her.
Joan started school at Diamond Lake School and then she attended school at Snowden, completing her final year of education at Choiceland High School.
Joan married George Barker April 3, 1970. In 1973 they moved to Snowden from Prince Albert. Joan worked for a few years in local establishments and became friends with her coworkers as well as the people she met. Joan worked at the True Value in Nipawin as well as the Kingfisher. The last few years while she was still able she worked at Caribou Cree, Lodge, and her final work place the Choiceland Esso where she was happy, but had to stop working due to health problems.
Joan lived on her own for a few years until 2009 when she moved into Placid Place Seniors Housing. Joan enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, going out for dinners, shopping or just sitting and visiting.
Joan enjoyed knitting, gardening in the summer, growing her flowers, having family stopping in and friends. Joan took part in going out for meals with friends of hers while living in Choiceland and spending time with her close friend Amel.
Joan had to move into a private care home and she lived at the North Haven Care Home in Smeaton until the time of her passing.
Joan was predeceased by her husband George Barker in 2002, her father Charles Debnam in 1985 and her mother Elma Debnam in 1998.
Joan leaves to treasure her memory her children: Tamie (Dan), Marcy and Quentin, brother Melvin (Cherie) Debnam and Eden, sister Julie Schemenauer (Ken Seykora) and Nathyn (Jen), brother –in-law Ernest Barker, sister-in-law Joyce Tessmer (Earl), sister-in-law Jeanne Barker, grandchildren: Tiffany, Kimberly, Zacharey, Shannon and Mercedes, great grandchildren: Syncere, Tianna, Carson, Avarye, Adrian, Madden and Quinlee. Joan will be sadly missed by her family, friends in the community and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
