With heavy hearts, we’ve lost a beloved husband, father, and grandpa that we loved so much. We will forever miss all the things that made him so special: his laugh, his stories, and especially his hugs.
John Brian McDonald, 72, of Melfort, passed away January 1, 2025 in Melfort.
He was born on March 18, 1952, to Archie and Alice McDonald in Melfort.
John married Linda Groat on June 21, 1975 and they had 2 children: Pamela and Devin McDonald.
He went to school in Melfort at MUCC, and barber school in Regina later. He worked many jobs around the Melfort area and was most proud to be a member of the Melfort Fire Department for 41 years. John retired from the City of Melfort on September 17, 2017, after 17 years of being the Fire Chief.
He loved to joke around, listen to the “good old country” music, and be involved in his children and grandchildren’s sports activities. He loved to play golf, woodwork in his shop, visit with family in the backyard, and go for coffee with his friends. He was well known in the community as Chief McDonald, and he will be remembered for his smile, laugh, and his quick wit.
John is survived by his wife Linda, his children Pam (Wes) and Devin (Sherri), and his grandchildren, Allyson (Lee), Hailey (Braydon), Brett (McKenna), Aliyah, and Ashton. He was preceded in death by his parents (Archie and Alice), and brother (Wayne).
John’s Celebration of Life Service will be held from the Kerry Vickar Centre, Melfort, on Tuesday, January 7, 2025 at 2:00 PM. The interment will follow at a later date.
Friends so wishing may make memorial contributions to the Melfort Fire Department.
