Joy Marlene Kjelshus was born on August 9, 1935 at the Melfort Union Hospital to Oswald and Alma Kjelshus. Joy was the third of four siblings: Doreen, Orville and Dianne. Joy married Leroy Braaten on December 15, 1959 and they had 2 daughters: Lianne and Lana. Leroy passed away on February 22, 1976. Joy later married Cliff Roles on December 1, 1979 and she gained three more children: Nadine, Sherri and Craig. Joy has 6 grandchildren: Todd, Amanda, Alissa, Shaylene, Kayla, Morgan and one great granddaughter, Blair Alma.
Family and friends were very important to Joy. Her family – especially her grandchildren and great granddaughter held a very special place in her heart. Her love of gardening showed through as she created beautiful yards at her many homes.
Joy passed away on June 23, 2019 in Melfort at the age of 83 years.
Joy leaves to cherish her memory: her husband of 39 years, Cliff Roles; her children: Lianne (Mike) Gallais, Lana (Rob) McDonald, Nadine Roles (Terry), Sherri Roles (Paul), Craig Roles; grandchildren: Todd (Triston) Gallais, Shaylene Gallais (Levi),Morgan Gallais (Taylor), Amanda McDonald, Alissa McDonald, Kayla McDonald and her only great granddaughter, Blair Alma Gallais; her sisters: Doreen Murray and Dianne (Wayne) Dagg and numerous nieces and nephews that loved her.
Joy was predeceased by her first husband Leroy Braaten; her parents: Oswald and Alma Kjelshus; brother Orville Kjelshus; mother-in-law Elizabeth Roles and numerous in-laws and family members.
A Memorial Service for Joy was held from the Melfort United Church, Melfort, SK on June 27, 2019 with Rev. Brenda Curtis and Rev. Emmanuel Menyereye officiating. The interment followed in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery Columbarium.
