The Ministry of Parks, Culture and Sport’s mission is to enhance economic growth and support quality of life by managing the provincial parks system and providing recreation, sport, heritage and cultural opportunities for residents and visitors.
The Ministry is currently seeking a dynamic and highly-motivated individual who is a flexible team player for the position of Labour Service Park Interpreter for provincial park lands within Fort Carlton Provincial Historic Park. Reporting to the Historic and Cultural Resource Specialist, this position will be a part of the Visitor Experiences team.
As a Park Interpreter, you will require knowledge of Saskatchewan’s natural and cultural heritage in order to develop and deliver engaging, informative and interactive historic, cultural and recreational programs that make visitors aware of our province’s unique biological and cultural diversity. You will work with a team of interpreters both in-park and across the province.
Responsibilities include facilitating curriculum-based school programs, cultural interpretation, organizing special events, hosting guest presenters and guiding resource-based recreation activities. In order to be successful in this position, you will be required to exhibit sound judgement when interacting with clients and co-workers. In addition, you will be responsible for creating seasonal reports, promotional materials and other documents.
The successful candidate will have experience and the ability to develop and present public programs. You will also be required to work with minimal supervision, including evenings and weekends and statutory holidays. You may also be required to occasionally travel to other parks which can include overnight stays. You will be required to work outdoors in all types of weather conditions and safely lead outdoor excursions. You must have the ability to lift and carry up to 23 kg, You must have the ability to lift and carry up to 23 kg, including program and collections materials.
A valid Saskatchewan Class 5 Driver’s License or equivalent is required.
This position runs full-time from the end of April through to September and may include seasonal part-time opportunities in the fall and winter.
