It is with great sadness that the family of Linda lone Peterson announce her peaceful passing on Sunday, September 13, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.
Linda was born on July 16, 1935, the eldest daughter of Ole and Gertie Hoiseth. Raised north of Weldon, Saskatchewan, Linda developed the strong work ethic and faith that would guide her throughout her life. She often shared stories of riding her faithful Shetland pony, Dusty, to school in a two-wheeled cart, traveling three miles to Windermere School and later attending school in Weldon through Grade 10. She loved sports and participated in all the activities available to her.
On June 28, 1953, Linda married the love of her life, Ernie Peterson. Together, they established their home on the Peterson family homestead north of Weldon. Beginning with a single cow, a sow, and a few chickens, Linda and Ernie gradually built their farm into a successful cow-calf and beef operation. Linda was a true partner on the farm, helping wherever needed, tending large gardens, caring for livestock, completing countless chores, and ensuring everyone was well fed. Her skills in the kitchen made her a remarkable cook whose meals brought family together.
In 1979, Linda began a new chapter when she started a 20-year career at Jubilee Lodge. She took great pride in her work and earned her Journeyman’s Certificate while employed there.
Linda and Ernie were blessed with five children: Iris, Crystal, Orlan, Arlene, and Janet. Together they built a loving home, centered on faith, family, and hard work. Through the years, their family grew to include nine grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren, with the arrival of her 15th great-grandchild to come. The blessing of her large extended family brought Linda great pride and joy. Nothing delighted Linda more than spending time with her family, attending sporting events, celebrating milestones, and creating lasting memories together.
Linda and Ernie were honoured as Citizens of the Year in Weldon in 2003. After years on the farm, they moved into a smaller home in Weldon in 2004. Later, Linda became a resident of Weldon Country Villa and eventually Jubilee Lodge.
Faith was at the center of Linda’s life. She was deeply involved in her church community, teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, serving with ELCW and Choir, participating at Rose Hill Lutheran Church, and volunteering with the Weldon Villa Auxiliary.
Linda enjoyed many hobbies and creative pursuits including cooking, baking, knitting, sewing clothes, figure skating dresses, quilting, ceramics, art classes, painting, and scenic artwork. Her family treasures many of her beautiful paintings.
Linda and Ernie shared many happy years at their cabin at Candle Lake, where they enjoyed entertaining family and friends. They also traveled with friends and took great pleasure in supporting their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren at sporting events, especially hockey.
Above all, Linda was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She taught her family the importance of faith, hard work, kindness, and strong values. Her love, wisdom, and example will remain with those who knew and loved her.
Linda is lovingly remembered by her children, Iris (Elmer) Olchowy, Crystal Peterson, Orlan (Roxanne) Peterson, and Janet (Darrell) Wenig; son-in-law, Glenn Dodds (Arlene’s husband); grandchildren, Josh, Jared (Hannah), Kristen (Brandon), Lindsay (Ernest), Janelle (Adam), Adam (Shauntal), Alanna (Brock), Tyrell (Brianna), and Shelby (Dawson); and her cherished great-grandchildren, Kaycee, Alex, Lucas, Leo, Jett, Sonny, Georgia, Jonie, Louis, Pete, Grace, Gunnar, Bradyn, Hudson, with another eagerly anticipated arrival. She is also survived by her sister, Opal Haaland; her brother, Les (Andrea) Hoiseth; her brother-in-law, Lorne McConaghy; and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Linda was predeceased by her beloved husband, Ernie Peterson; daughter, Arlene Dodds; son-in-law, Jim Quick; parents, Ole and Gertie Hoiseth; sister, Norma McConaghy; brother-in-law, Bill Haaland; and her two infant siblings.
A Funeral Service for Linda will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, September 28, 2026, at Weldon Lutheran Church, located 6 – 4 Ave S., Weldon, Saskatchewan. Lunch will follow at the Weldon Auditorium.
