Evelyn Lorenza Mitchell, or Lorna, as most people knew her, was born in Star City on October 5, 1936 to Frederick and Sara Higgins. Lorna attended South Star and Star City schools. Following graduation, she went to Business College in Prince Albert. There she met Philip Mitchell, and they were married in June of 1957. In July that year, they moved to the farm in South Star district to help Lorna’s parents on the farm. They took over the farm in 1963. Early in 1969, Phil and Lorna adopted Twyla Merlaine and in 1972, they adopted Trent Carlyle.
In 1989, they rented the land and retired from farming. In 2006 they sold the land and moved to Tisdale.
In 2000, Lorna’s only grandchild, Tyler was born. She was always very proud of him and bragged to whomever would listen.
Lorna loved her flowers, garden and spending time with friends. She spent many hours expressing her creative side by crocheting, baking, and scrapbooking. Once she moved to Tisdale, she spent time volunteering at Long Term Care facilities, and visiting with the residents.
In 2015, Lorna’s dementia took its toll, and she moved into New Market Place as a resident instead of a volunteer.
Lorna passed peacefully at New Market Place on October 22, 2018.
